Poster for the Coraline stage production

This is apparently the poster for the Coraline stage production at the MCC Theater. Not much to get excited about. And maybe I'm totally not understanding the nature of the production, but it seems that a man (David Greenspan) plays Coraline's Other Mother and that this is the woman (Jayne Houdyshell) playing Coraline:

  1. You are right on both counts and I can almost guarantee it will be brilliant. Theater is always about suspending disbelief and, if I know Houdyshell as an actress, she will pull this off with such seeming genuineness that you will believe she IS Coraline.

  2. ok, a man playing the other mother is creepy... but( and no offense) that lady is WAY too old to be playing Coraline

  4. About the casting director Leigh Silverman said in a statement, "Coraline is a wildly unconventional musical and having the exquisite Jayne Houdyshell play the precocious nine-year old, gleefully defines the surprising and extraordinary spirit of the piece."

  5. I was seriously looking forward to this, but a chubby old lady playing coraline, a man being the other mother and a man being miss forcible is just plain stupid and discusting!
